Colocation
Colocation is the leasing of data centre space, power, cooling and connectivity. The customer supplies and owns the servers; the operator supplies and runs the building and its infrastructure.
Leased capacity is quoted in different units depending on the market — by rack, by cabinet, by cage, or by committed kilowatts.
Korean contracts and proposals commonly use «sangmyeon» for the leased area, the local trade term corresponding to white space.
Pricing here is typically expressed per rack together with a committed power figure, so two quotations are only comparable once both the area unit and the power basis are stated.
Korea is projected to require roughly USD 13.6 billion of capital expenditure for colocation development through 2030.
